About This Activity

The 3rd Annual Color Fest 5K is a fun and colorful event that takes places through the Bucklin Park area of El Centro.  The 5K serves as a charity fundraiser for Newspapers in Education ("NIE") that allows schools receive newspapers at no-cost for use as a classroom tool to enhance learning. Teachers and students have discovered that using newspapers as teaching tools provides many benefits, including increasing communication skills, improving language arts,
Stimulating interest and intellect for current events and opinion-editorial pages, providing information on local artistic, educational, business, religious and athletic events of interest and making students familiar with newspapers as a major resource of information.

Event details and schedule

What is the color?
The color is made out of cornstarch and food dye. Sunglasses will be provided to protect your eyes, but feel free to wear a bandana around your face to prevent color or dust from getting in your mouth.
Will the color stain my clothes or shoes?
The color does mostly wash out after the event, but some of it can stain. As with anything, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn't mind getting the color on.
What should I wear?
- Wear WHITE to get the best color experience!
- Be Comfortable! It will be chilly so wear warm running bottoms and broken in shoes (nothing worse than breaking in shoes the day of a long race).
- Protect Yourself! Put on plenty of sunscreen. Sunglasses will be provided.
- Costumes are optional.
Can I walk?
Yes! Color Fest 5K is not a timed race and non-competitive so don't feel any pressure to run. We're sure you won't be the only one walking.

Are pets allowed?
Unfortunately, pets will not be allowed.
Are cameras and phones safe to have near the color stations?
We are not liable for damaged items, so we recommend covering cameras/phones with a plastic wrap. We will also have our photographers taking photos along different areas of the race that will be available for purchase on our site.
