About This Activity

The 2nd Annual WannaWearOne Ostomy AWEARness 5k held on World Ostomy Awareness day on October 3, 2015 will educate, support, and raise community awareness about people living with ostomy pouches (ostomates) including urostomy, ileostomy, ureterostomy, and colostomy.  All proceeds benefit the United Ostomy Associtation of America, Inc (UOAA) charity, a 501(c)(3) organization, so sponsorships and donations are tax deductible. (https://www.ostomy.org/)
The race will be held in the South Point area of Durham on the scenic American Tobacco Trail (ATT) over the new I-40 bridge.  The out-and-back course will start and finish at the parking lot outside of Omega Sports, located off of Renaissance Parkway in Durham, NC.  The turn-around will be on the ATT behind the Krogers Foods.  This 5K course is flat except for one uphill section on the ATT just south of the I-40 bridge.  This 5K course is certified by the USATF.

Omega Sports will furnish prizes for top three overall female/male winners, age group winners, top stroller runner, and top three ostomate runners.  Yes, we have a category to honor the ostomates!
Tech T-shirts will be included with registration if registered before the deadline.  Race shirts will be either unisex or female v-neck cut.  You are guarenteed a race shirt if registered by September 13th.  You may purchase additional race shirts for $10.
Race bags will have typical race/sponsor promotional items, ostomy education materials, and most importantly an ostomy pouch.  We encourage non-ostomate participants to put on the pouch for the race to improve awareness and empathy for the challenges faced by the ostomate population.  There will be a pouch filling station at the event with substances like pudding  for more adventurous participants to get an even more authentic pouch-wearing experience.
The WannaWearOne Ostomy AWEARness 5k will be a family friendly event including kids' activities during the event and a stroller division.  Specific Kids activities include:
-50m Fun Run with prize
-Face Painting
-Bubble Station
-Sidewalk Chalk
If you are interested in sponsoring the race, please fill out a sponsorship form:  (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1ITqx6rzpzkNUZuZFBrWnBCN28/edit?usp=sharing).
Set up a fundraising page or join an exisitng fundraising team to help raise money for the WannaWearOne 5k event with proceeds going to the UOAA:
We will be having an incentivized fundraising challenge for those individuals who raise over $250.  Those who raise $250+ will be honored as a "Stoma Star" and receive a custom Stoma Star t-shirt.
There will be a silent auction tent set up during the event where many wonderful donated products, gifts, and items will be available to bid upon with all proceeds benefiting the UOAA for Ostomy support and awareness.  Bidding ends promptly at 9:30am after the race and winners must be present in person at that time to claim their item.  Please contact WannaWearOne@gmail.com if interested in contributing.  Personal checks and cash are accepted.
Packet Pick Up
Packet pick up will occur on Friday, October 2rd from 4pm to 7pm at Omega Sports or from 7am to 8am on race day at the registration tent.
