WalkAthlete 5k Walking Program

About This Activity
This 6-week program is designed to train walkers up to 5k distance (training to a shorter distance is OK for anyone who does not feel ready for the 5k distance). The program will improve cardiovascular and muscular fitness, and will teach you how to walk “correctly” using the WalkAthlete technique. Each week you will increase your walking distance, learn a new feature of the technique and learn a new exercise drill. You will build on what you learned and practiced the previous week. The program focuses on using correct athletic walking technique to improve posture, muscular balance and cardiovascular endurance. This program is designed for all fitness levels. Everyone goes at their own pace so you don’t need to worry about your speed.
Duration: 6 weeks. 1-2 hours per week. Level: All Fitness Levels
About the Instructor:
Colleen Garton (aka Coach Leenie) is a certified American Council on Exercise (ACE) Personal Trainer. She has coached many walkers (and runners) with various goals from wanting to walk a couple of miles each day to training for half or full marathon distance. Coach Leenie is an experienced marathon (and half marathon) walker and regularly participates in races. WalkAthlete offers individual coaching in addition to various group classes throughout the year.
