About This Activity

An all-star mother, wife, coach, volunteer, and citizen of Dudley, Janet Hourihan Brooks, has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Janet has been an instrumental part of the Dudley youth athletic basketball and soccer programs. She coordinates the Dudley Youth Basketball program and recently expanded the Grade 2-8 program to include kindergarten and first grade students. In addition, she has coached Dudley Youth Soccer for many years. Janet and her husband, Bill, have two boys in the Dudley district and although they are at the middle school level, Janet still works tirelessly with the youth of Dudley to promote a love of basketball and soccer. The enthusiasm and positivity she brings to coaching is exciting for the children and inspiring and heartwarming for parents to watch.

Janet’s enthusiasm is deeply rooted since as a Holy Cross Crusader she became the first female in Holy Cross history to score 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.

To support her and her family and to increase awareness of pancreatic cancer, we ask for you to join us June 25th for a 5k run/walk in her honor. Let’s bring the same enthusiasm to Janet and her family during this fight as she brings to our local youth on the soccer field and basketball court.

Janet’s Crusaders 5K Run & Walk will begin and end at Crawford Little League Field on Saturday, June 25th 2016 at 10am followed by awards and a cookout. The money raised will be used to further enhance the youth sports programs Janet has helped to develop, as well as to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and support the Adam Bullen Foundation. The Adam Bullen Foundation is a charitable organization that provides emotional and financial support for children and adults with cancer in southern Worcester county. Most importantly, Janet and her family will be honored and supported during this difficult time.
