Yellow Ribbon 5K Walk

Event Date

Sun, Sep 21, 2014

Dayton, OH

About This Activity

This event was started with the help of the Peer Listeners at Beavercreek High School and their teacher in 2007.  It is meant bring awareness to the issues surrounding youth suicide.  We hope to educate students and adults in Greene County and Southwest Ohio about the need to talk to someone if they are not feeling emotionally connected to others and may be having thoughts of hurting themselves.  We also have a memorial balloon release for all of those whom we have lost to suicide.  This gives families a chance to publicly acknowledge their sadness and to speak to others dealing with the same type of loss.

After the 5K Walk, we also spend time playing games and enjoying the food that the Peer Listeners help prepare.

All monies raised goes to the program's printing and advertising costs.  None of the PBS board members receive a salary or have expense accounts.
