7th Annual SCAVMA Dog 'N' Jog: Outrun Obesity
Sat, Apr 19, 2014
About This Activity
In conjunction with the Students for One Health organization on campus, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Class of 2015 presents the 7th Annual Dog N' Jog! The race this year will left around the One Health issue of Obesity, both in humans and our pet companions alike.
It's widely known that obesity rates are climbing in the human population, but did you know that pets are also seeing a higher incidence of obesity? Over 50% of pets are now considered overweight or obese and many pet owners do not recognize that their animal is above a healthy weight.
This year's Dog 'n' Jog theme is "Outrun Obesity" which aims to raise awareness of the increasing incidence of obesity in cats and dogs, the medical consequences of excess weight, and the treatment and prevention of obesity in cats and dogs.
At the Valley Patio starting point and finish line, there will be a health fair featuring pet food companies, health care representatives, and local businesses raising awareness of the fight against obesity.
And of course, bring your dog to run alongside you in your 1.5mi, 5K, or 10K race!
