About This Activity

DFW TRI CLUB Winter Running Group

If you have run a 5k in the past and wondered if you could go a bit farther, or do you enjoy being part of a community and working towards a common goal, or maybe you just want to stay fit and keep racing in the offseason.  If so, come join the DFW Tri Club Winter Running Group with Coach Lyndsi Bieging and Coach Brian Wellman.  

We will target the Hot Chocolate 15k and the Cowtown Half or Full Marathon as our group races, but you don't have to race if you don't want to - you can just come out and run with our group.  All ability levels are welcome.   

The coached workouts will give you exposure to proper form and race techniques that will make your next race fun and  more enjoyable.  The group dynamic will motivate you and help keep your fitness up during the cold winter months. And the clinics will increase your overall knowledge of running and staying fit.     

Event details and schedule

The group will kick off on Monday, November 9th.  There will be two options for participating in the group:

  • 12 week program (November 9 - February 6) targeting Hot Chocolate
  • 15 week program (November 9 - February 27) targeting Cowtown Half or Full Marathon

If you can't commit to the whole 12 or 15 weeks that is fine too - we still want to see your smiling face so you can drop into a workout at any time.  See below for details!

Included in the Winter Running Group is:

  • COACHED run and strength workouts!
  • Customized detailed weekly group workout schedules posted online using a FREE TrainingPeaks account
  • Discounted lactate threshold testing to determine heart rate training zones which will significantly optimize and enhance your training (10% discount if done BEFORE Nov 6).
  • Free Lectures and Clinics: Run basics and Heart Rate, Dynamic Stretching/Pre Race warm up, and Race Strategy

  • Membership to a Facebook group that will include motivation and nutrition tips throughout the program

  • A fun group to run the Hot Chocolate 15k or Cowtown with you and will be there to celebrate as you cross the finish line!

 Program Details:

  • Training Begins – November 9th
  • Run basics and Heart Rate clinics – Saturday Nov 21st 10 a.m. Arbor Hills Plano, TX. and Monday January 4th - location TBD 
  • Dynamic stretching and pre-race warm up Clinic – Saturday January 16th 9 a.m. - prior to a longer group training run
  • Pre-Race Meeting – TBD
  • Hot Chocolate 15k– February 6th, 2016
  • Cowtown Half or Full Marathon - February 27th, 2016

Coached Group Training Sessions:

  • Hill Repeats – alternating Monday's (see Training Peaks group training schedule for details and dates) 521 Lawther Dr, Dallas and Arbor Hills, Plano
  • Track workouts - Wednesday's 7 a.m. at Creekview HS, Carrollton, or 6 p.m. at SMU Track (see Training Peaks group training schedule for detail and dates)
  • Strength workouts - Carrollton LA Fitness (dates and times TBD - see Training Peaks group training schedule for details)
  • Long runs - Sunday mornings (dates and times TBD)
