About This Activity
Up in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado, the Rio Grande begins it's 1,800 mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico. The Runoff Runoff marathon and 6K follow the scenic headwaters of the Rio Grande ending to the historic mountain town of Creede, Colorado. Organized by the Willow Creek Reclamation Committee and the Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project, this event raises funds to support river restoration projects that improve water quality, wildlife habitat, recreation and the overall condition of the Rio Grande headwaters.
The Runoff Runoff event includes both a marathon and a 6K race. Following the race, there will be a fun celebration for the whole family complete with a silent auction, raffle, food venders, live music, and local beer!
Event details and schedule
Marathon: The Runoff Runoff Marathon begins on Rio Grande National Service at Road Canyon Reservoir. A shuttle will take runners from Creede to the starting line on Forest Service Road 520 overlooking the Reservoir. From FS Road 520 to highway 149, the course follows the Rio Grande headwaters to Creede, Colorado. Aid stations will be located every 3 miles along the course. Once you cross the finish line at the Creede Ball Park, the post race party will begin!
6K: The Runoff Runoff 6K begins at the Creede ball park and follows the meandering Willow Creek floodplain trail out and back, finishing at the Ball Park. Runners, joggers, and walkers of all ages are welcome!
