NSA Crane Commodore Run Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk Saturday, October 24
Naval Support Activity Crane is pleased to announce that it will resume its annual Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk. This event began in 1986 and was held annually until the events of September 11th led to its suspension. Don’t miss this chance to experience THE hidden gem of southern Indiana running.
Will there be water stops? Yes, there will be water stops approximately every two (2) miles on the course.
Will there be Gatorade and energy gels on the course? There will be Gatorade Endurance Formula at all water stops. Energy Gels will be handed out in a variety of flavors on the course at around mile 7 for the Half Marathon. Make sure you train with them before the race if you plan on grabbing one.
Where can we park for the races? NSA Crane authorized personnel may park at the Crane Cafeteria, Bldg. 121. Non-affiliated general public may park at the West Gate Training Center with shuttles running every 15 minutes between the hours of 6:45 and 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
What are the event start dates and times? Half Marathon: Saturday, October 24, 2015, 9 a.m. 5K Run/Walk: Saturday, October 24, 2015, 9:30 a.m.
Is there a gear check? We will have gear check for both the 5K and the Half Marathon, located near the finish line by the Crane Cafeteria. The gear check will open at 7 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. You must pick up your gear immediately after your race in the same location at which you dropped it off. As a safety requirement, every runner will receive a clear plastic bag at packet pick-up that MUST be used for your gear check bag. We WILL NOT accept any other bags. All race bibs will include a gear check tag that will need to be removed from your bib and tied to the bag before you turn it into gear check on race morning. MWR is not responsible for any lost items so please do not leave valuables in your gear bag.
What time should I be there? We encourage all participants and spectators to arrive prior to 8 a.m. to ensure parking availability and allow for adequate time to drop off bags, warm up, and get in the start area.
What times do the roads re-open? A complete listing of street closures and times will be posted closer to the event date.
Is there a time limit? Yes, participants in the Commodore Run Half Marathon are limited to 4 hours, an 18:19 minute per mile pace.
Will spectators be allowed to view the finish? Yes, there will be plenty of space to view your runner finish. Participants unaffiliated with the base are allowed to bring one guest each. Participants MUST register their guest at time of race registration. We also invite guests to stay and take part in the post-race party.
Do I need my ID for the post-race party? You will need an ID if you wish to consume alcohol. Your bib is your entry to the post-race party which will feature hot chili. Registered Half Marathon and 5K participants 21 and over will receive two free beers at the post-race party. Spectators wishing to participate in the post-race party must pay $5 for entry. Beer will also be available for purchase for spectators or runners.
Will there be an awards ceremony? Yes. Awards will be distributed at the post-race. Awards not received can be picked up by calling race coordinator, David Helming, at (812) 854-3835.
What are the overall and age group awards? Half Marathon Awards for 1st and 2nd place men and women in 10 age divisions:
19 and Under 20-24 25-29 30-34 35-39
40-44 45-49 50-54 55-59 60 and over
19 and Under 20-29 30-39
40-49 50-59 60 and over
Will the race be timed? Yes, it will be timed by KRONO TRACKS timing system.
What do I get for my entry fee? All Commodore Run Half Marathon participants will receive a long sleeve technical shirt. The 5K Run/Walk participants will receive a short sleeve cotton t-shirt. Half marathon finishers will receive a unique finisher’s medal. All participants are invited to the post-race festivities.
Is this event open to the public? Yes, the Commodore Run Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk races are open to the general public. Runners with no affiliation to the base will need to pay particular attention to requirements (i.e. mandatory bag check, two forms of ID for access, etc.) and restrictions (i.e. one guest per runner registered in advance).

What are the age limits for the races? You must be 12 years of age to run the Half Marathon. We encourage participants of all ages to join us for the 5K. Regardless of race type, parents or guardians must run with their minor children and must be registered for the race.
Are the races walker friendly? Yes, we will have plenty of participants who will walk. The 13.1 mile course will be open for 4 hours, which equates to an 18:19 minute per mile pace. Participants on the 5K course must maintain a 20 minute per mile pace.

Will I receive a refund if I cannot attend? Can someone else run with my number? There are NO refunds, however, in the event of race cancellation, refunds will be administered. NO transfers to other runners, NO exceptions.
I’m registered to run and I’ll be pushing a Rider on the race course. How do I sign up my Rider to get a Rider Bib? Only people with a bib will be permitted on the race course. Riders will need to be registered for a Rider Bib during the registration process, at no additional charge. Click HERE to register.
Are baby joggers, strollers or pets allowed during the race? If you choose to run with a baby jogger, you must seed yourself behind all other runners and you must register your child, at no charge, for a Rider Bib. It is your responsibility to make sure your baby jogger does not impede other runners, and you must take extra precaution to ensure your safety, your child’s safety, and the safety of the runners around you. We reserve the right to pull any participant from the race who is endangering other runners or themselves. Pets are not permitted in any of the Commodore Run events.
Why do I need to register for a Rider Bib and what do I get with my Rider Bib? For your continued safety, it’s important that race officials are aware of each person on the race course. In a medical situation, your emergency contact information will be obtained from your rider bib. Rider bibs give you access to the race course only. Riders do not receive any race swag, including but not limited to; race shirt, medal, finisher food, etc. A rider is permitted to register, at the current registration rate, as a race participant instead of as a Rider if he/she wishes to enjoy all of the race benefits.
Are headphones (iPods, mp3 players, etc.) allowed during the race? Headphones and other listening devices are permitted. Please just be alert of any runners or vehicles that are around you.
How will I receive my race packet? You must pick up your race packet prior to the event. If you are 16 or older, you must have your ID to pick up your race number – NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are picking up race numbers for others, you must have your ID, a note from the person you are picking up for authorizing you to pick up his or her packet and a copy of his or her ID – NO EXCEPTIONS. Can someone else pick up my packet for me? Yes, as long as they have a copy of your photo ID and a letter signed by you providing permission for that person to pick up your packet. Click HERE for a sample permission form. If you are picking up race numbers for others, you must have your ID, a note from the persons you are picking up for authorizing you to pick up their packet and a copy of their ID – NO EXCEPTIONS. You may pick up a family member’s race packet as long as your last name is the same and you have your ID.
Can I register on race day? We will NOT have race day registration. If the race has not sold out, MWR will accept CASH ONLY registrations on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Packet Pick-Up. Prices will increase to $55 p/p for the Half Marathon and $35 p/p for the 5K Run/Walk, and participant shirts are not guaranteed.
