About This Activity

The History

The 2014 Lauren Beam Foundation 5K/10K Trail Run and Hike is our second race, and our first on the west coast. We are excited to build this tradition of celebrating Lauren (Smith) Beam’s life and raise money for young men and women battling cancer.

After Lauren passed away in September 2011, Lauren’s fanclub of supporters (Team Beam), spontaneously organized an informal run in Central Park as a way to keep her unbelievable spirit and determination alive.  This run was born from that day, and represents something Lauren loved to do – run – as well as something that helps the human spirit defy the effects of cancer.

COURSE INFORMATION: Both races start near the Fairgrounds parking lot. Runners and hikers will begin on the paved bike path before turning onto a maintained hiking trail. The 10K runners will separate from the 5K runners and head out for a beautiful section of an out-and-back trail, before rejoining the 5K course. The course has rolling hills and a mixture of some challenging hills and easy and flat sections. There is something for everybody in this one! A detailed course map will be available on our website (

FUN RUN FOR KIDS: A 1-mile run for kids age 12 and under will take place at 10:30 am on Sunday. The course will be on the bike path, and will be an out-and-back run (0.5 miles out to a clear turn-around and then back 0.5 miles to the starting point.) The Fun Run for Kids will be donation-based, with day-of-race sign up, and waivers will be available on site.

SPECTATORS: Spectators can watch the race and cheer the runners and hikers from anywhere along the race route.  The start and finish lines are near the Benton County Fairgrounds and there are great viewing spots within walking distance of the parking lot/registration area (about 1/2 mile). There is also a parking lot on Oak Creek Road, which connects with the course near the gorgeous old barn, another great location for spectating and cheering.

RULES AND REGULATIONS: To satisfy insurance requirements, no head phones, skates, strollers (including running strollers), or animals are permitted in the run. Please stay within running course boundaries at all times. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Race bibs must be fully visible at all times, and we recommend you attach it to your torso. The Lauren Beam Foundation reserves the right to refuse entry and/or to disqualify any individual from our run. This disqualification may be based on, but is not limited to: violation of the aforementioned rules; unsportsmanlike conduct; running with an unofficial number/race entry; crossing the finish line without having completed the entire course; and providing false information on the race entry form.  The Lauren Beam Foundation reserves the right to change the details of the race.
