About This Activity
The Food Run 5k is back! The Coralville Ecumenical Food Pantry is excited to announce that it will be hosting its third annual 5k run/walk on Saturday, November 7. The Food Run 5k is intended to be a fun-filled way for people of all ages and abilities to come together to support the mission of the food pantry. NOTE: This is not an officially time race. There will be a race clock for runners/walkers to self-time. The route is a scenic one beginning and ending at the food pantry (203 1st Street). Participants will use a mixture of wide sidewalks and the Clear Creek Trail to trek past the Hawkeye Recreation Fields and through the tree-filled Mormon Handcart park. Prizes will be awarded to first place male and female finishers for the following categories: 8 & under; 9-13; 14-21; 21-49, 50+.
Registration costs ($25/person) include an event t-shirt as well as food and drinks after the event. Children age 5 and under participate at no cost. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Coralville Ecumenical Food Pantry. Registration for “The Food Run” is now open. RACE LOCATION Coralville Ecumenical Food Pantry 203 1st Street Coralville, IA 52241 (Behind Exotic India Restaurant)
7:30 AM: T-Shirt & Packet Pick-Up + New Registrations
9:00 AM: Race Start
9:30-10:30 AM: Post Race Food/Drinks
10:30 AM: Race Awards/Prizes
PARKING Parking will be available at the following places withing walking distance of the race location:
The University of Iowa Softball Complex (1st Ave)
Restaurant complex parking lot north of the food pantry (where El Dorado Mexican Restaurant is located)
Downward Dog Yoga
SAFETY One entire lane of 1st Street will be barricaded, creating a safe zone for participants to gather and run through when starting the race. When you arrive, please stay within the barricaded area or on sidewalks.
RESTROOMS The food pantry facility contains 2 one-stall restrooms.
WATER STATION On the route, at about the half-way mark, a water station will be made available to participants.
PRIZES Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers for the following age groups: 8 and under, 9-13, 14-21, 21-49, and 50+. Additional prizes will be raffled off—winners’ names will be posted on a whiteboard inside the pantry.
FOOD & DRINKS Upon finishing the race, 5k participants are invited to help themselves to water, granola bars, and bananas—all of which will be available inside the food pantry.
ROUTE The Food Run 5k start/finish line will be directly in front of the food pantry entrance. The route will use all sidewalks and trails, leading participants through Mormon Handcart Trail, Clear Creek Trail, and loop around to head back towards the pantry (see image below).
