About This Activity
The 1st annual Great Lakes Ride - Lake Michigan Over the Top will run June 12-21, 2014. During this 10 day event participants will ride approximately 55-85 miles a day with a bonus CENTURY RIDE near the trip’s mid way point. Each day will be filled with delicious meals, plenty of snack and beverage stations, amazing scenery, and best of all- the company of other adventure seeking cyclists. This is a fully supported ride including SAG, rest stops, camp sites, gear transport, breakfast, dinner and bicycle mechanic (parts not included), allowing participants to focus on each day’s activities and sights.
Great Lakes Ride - Lake Michigan Over the Top will begin in Manitowoc, WI and follows the shoreline of Lake Michigan north. It then cuts over to Green Bay continuing on to Marinette where riders will then enter Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (UP). The UP towns of Escanaba, Manistique and St. Ignace will welcome riders for the mid section of this adventure. After traveling over the top of Lake Michigan, riders will enjoy spectacular views of the Mackinaw Bridge as they take the ferry to Mackinac Island (ferry ticket and some famous island fudge included!) Mackinac Island is a cyclist’s paradise as CARS ARE NOT ALLOWED on the island! The island is approximately 8 miles around and hosts a variety of fudge & gift shops, pubs, and attractions. After enjoying some time on the island, the ferry will take riders onward to Mackinaw City. From there they will continue this great adventure through the “Tunnel of Trees” and in to some of Northern Michigan’s most famous beach towns/attractions- Petoskey, Traverse City, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline. This bicycle-camping adventure finishes in the welcoming town of Ludington, MI.
Participants will be given either a start or return ticket with the S.S. Badger Ferry out of Ludington to accommodate riders from all parts of the country.
