About This Activity
Celebrate 80 years of the Norris Dam at this one-time special event. Run the 8.0K (just less than 5 miles) or walk a 2 mile route on the Songbird Trail on July 30, 2016. The 8K is limited to 500 participants! Secure your spot now!
Date, Time, and Place: July 30, 2016 at 7:30 am at Norris Dam. Packet pickup will open at 6:30 am.
Parking: All participants will park at the Museum of Appalachia and take buses to the event site. Buses will begin running to the race site at 5:15 am. The last bus leaving for the race will be at 7:00 am. No one is allowed to drive to the race site. Anyone with special needs should call 632-6000.
Cost (NO REFUNDS OR TRANSFERS): 8.0K - $30 through July 13 then $35 through July 27. $40 on race day. KTC Discount applies to 8.0K registration only. Cost for the walk is free. Walkers do need to register and may purchase a shirt for $5.
T-Shirts: 8.0K Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt with their registration. 2 Mile Fun Walk participants can purchase a t-shirt for $5 during registration.
Course: The route will be USATF certified and will take participants over the Dam and back. The walk will follow the Songbird Trail. The walk will not be timed.
Bag Check: An area for bag check will be provided on race day. Bags will be provided for participants and will be available at the Museum of Appalachia where buses are loaded. To check a bag, you must use an official race bag. KTC, TVA, and event organizers are not responsible for lost or stolen items. TVA Security will be onsite and do have the right to check all bags.
Awards: All 8.0K participants will receive a comemorative medal (limited to 500 participants). The 1st Male and Female Overall will be recognized as well as the first Male and Female Over 80 years old. No age group awards for this event.

KTC Safety Policy:
KTC’s mission is to encourage lifelong physical well-being through running and walking. That is accomplished through a variety of events and programming. The Knoxville Track Club puts the safety of its participants, spectators, staff and volunteers first. Dangerous weather conditions pose a unique challenge to an event of any size, distance or location.
Therefore, KTC has adopted the following Inclement Weather Policy: Weather forecasts will be monitored prior to the event, with special attention placed on the possibility of heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds, extreme temperatures and humidity. If necessary, athletes will be made aware of these conditions on Knoxville Track Club’s website (www.ktc.org), as well as through other available means of communication such as e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and public address announcements. The Executive Director and Race Director in consultation, when available, with law enforcement, fire/EMS, other medical officers and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action will be taken to modify the race. Possible changes include: Altering the start time, altering the course, or in extreme situations cancellation of the event. Visible lightning occurring within 30 minutes of the scheduled start will cause the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes. Additional sightings will continue to delay the race in 30-minute increments up to a maximum of 3 delays. Race personnel reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race or modify the course due to inclement weather. As stated on registration and race pages, there are no refunds or transfers. Participants must abandon the race if ordered to do so by the race personnel, medical staff, fire/paramedics or police personnel.
