Run for Kris

About This Activity
During the early morning hours of February 8, 2016, Ofc. Kris Kruse was at his residence with friends having a bonfire after watching the Super Bowl earlier that evening. While the group of friends were sitting around the fire, Kris noticed that the gas can that they had used to start the fire was to close so he went to move it before there was an issue. What he didn’t know was that it was too late. When Kris picked up the gas can it exploded, ultimately engulfing him in flames. His Girlfriend and other friends quickly told him to “Stop, Drop, and Roll” which he did, while they also placed a jacket on him to help extinguish the flames. . It was by the quick thoughts and actions of these friends that Kris is with us today.
Kris suffered extensive burns to approximately 65% of his body, a large portion of which were 3rd degree burns. Initially Kris was transported to the Burn Unit at ORMC for treatment, however in late February Kris was transferred to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida where he is recovering today.
Officer Kris Kruse had been an Officer with the Clermont Police Department for approximately 8 months at the time of the accident, however he has been a member of our family since he was 12 years old, when he joined the Police Explorer program. His father Jack Kruse is also an Officer with the Clermont Police Department, as well as long time residents of the Clermont area.
Come join his fellow platoon mates on Saturday evening May 21st , 2016 as we host a fun run in his name. The start/finish of the run will be on Montrose Street in front of the Clermont Police Department before it travels through historic downtown Clermont prior to moving onto the bike trail. All proceeds will go into the “Benefit for Offcier Kris Kruse Clermont Police Department” account at Fifth Third Bank that has been established to assist with his medical expenses.
