About This Activity
Hooters Clearwater Beach is the host to 5 annual events on Clearwater Beach designed to keep you in shape with a balance of fun throughout the year. We draw a very non-competitive group of 5K runners and walkers and some very advanced ocean mile swimmers who are typically training for larger events or enjoy open water swim races. Lifeguards patrol the swim but please only register for this category if you are a capable swimmer.
The ocean mile swim begins first at 9:15 am in front of Pier 60 in an organized mass start. The swim is professionally timed and participants have the option of doing the full mile swim or exiting the water at the half mile turn around and running or walking along the beach back to the finish line at Pier 60 (your armband on race day will indicate to our timers the category you have selected). Swim caps are required so please bring one with you but we will provide them if you happen to forget. Remember to pay the pay station when you park as parking is strictly enforced on Clearwater Beach at all times. The race cannot be responsible for any parking violations and we want you to have a GREAT experience with us at the event and at Hooters afterward. These races are known for their fun and easy going crowds who enjoy the party!
Awards for the swim only go to the full mile swimmers; top 10 females and top 10 males to cross the finish line.
Event details and schedule
The 5K is a separate event (not continuous like multi sport races) and begins at 10:15 am in the same location on the beach just north of Pier 60. Most of the swimmers opt to register for the run as well. The 5K typically draws about 200 runners and sells out at 300 so don’t wait too long to register. Times are a bit slower on the beach even though you are running on hard packed sand so you just might find your crowd if you are more of a healthy participant who enjoys the free wings and free beer even more than the race itself. Hooters makes it all about you. All registered participants are invited to the top deck of Hooters Clearwater Beach on the lookout deck from 10:30 am until noon where the party takes places overlooking one of the best views of the Gulf Of Mexico! The Hooters Clearwater Beach races typically draw many travelers so it’s not uncommon for us to have dozens of US state represented and multiple countries at each race. Awards for the 5K are presented at the Hooters post race party to the first 25 males and first 25 female 5K finishers with some special categories for seniors, military and special abilities. If you are handed a poker chip at the finish line hold onto it and bring it to Hooters to redeem for your glass framed TOP FINISHER’s award.
All those who register at least 10 days prior to the event are promised the race shirt and we typically have enough for late registrants but there are no guarantees so please register early. Check in begins in front of Pier 60 at 8 am on race day with no pre race packet pick up location. Times will be posted after the race at www.727CanRace.com
