About This Activity
Legacy Freedom 5K
In memory of Courtney Reitler
The Legacy Freedom 5k was created to honor Courtney Dawn Reitler, who passed away February 11, 2017. All proceeds from the race will be contributed to a scholarship fund, created at the request of Courtney’s family, to Legacy Freedom Treatment Centers. At the time of her death, Courtney was attending Legacy’s treatment program.
Her parents said how much Courtney loved the program and how caring, supportive and encouraging they were, and gave her the resources/tools to help her succeed.
Courtney’s life is filled with stories of courage, strength, determination and love. Whether she was striving for success in academics, sports or relationships, she always gave 100%. She had unwavering faith in God, and was caring, loving, and passionate about helping others. At times, she fought a silent battle; and her family, along with Legacy, aims to bring awareness to mental health issues and addiction. The addiction epidemic is taking hold of families all over the country.
The funds raised from the 5k, will provide a scholarship to those in need. Courtney was grateful for the scholarship she received, and would want to pay it forward.
Courtney played several sports throughout her life. She began competing in softball and soccer at a young age. She was competitive by nature and always strived to be the very best. Courtney was a fighter. She faced countless challenges and never gave up hope. She never did anything halfway. Courtney is not struggling any longer, and is at peace in heaven. Courtney left behind many loved ones, including her parents, four children and sister. Her vivacious spirit lives on in her children.
