About This Activity

In January of 2015, PVUMC lost a longtime friend to ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  Becky Epton’s passing was felt by many in our congregation, and her friends and family still miss the woman who was a devoted wife and mother, a consistent volunteer in the community, and an active member of the UMW and our church.

A few months after her passing, there was some discussion as to how we could best honor the contribution Becky made and to remember the impact she had on our church.  It was in this discussion that the idea of running a 5k was first brought up.  We are now very happy and excited to share the news that what was once an idea has now become a reality.

The Becky Epton Memorial 5k on April 16th, 2016 will be the start of something we hope to be an inaugural event in the South Riding / Chantilly areas.  Channeling the heart that Becky had for her family, for her church, and for her community the event will serve as a fundraiser for the ALS association.  The entirety of the $25 dollar registration fee will go as a donation towards research and prevention of this disease.  This is the best way that we know how to give back and also to help us remember the kind of spirit that we are called to have towards caring for others.

Run (or walk) for fun.  For a friend.  For family.  For yourself.  Whatever your reason, we hope that you’ll take a morning to join us as we remember the life of someone who is so important to our community and do so in a way that allows us to also take time to be in God’s creation.

You can register for the Becky Epton Memorial 5k through  Registrations prior to April 2nd will include a t-shirt for the event.  After April 3rd the registration goes up to $30 and a t-shirt is no longer guaranteed.  We thank you for your support!
