Running-5K - Individual Age group/open
About This Activity
Cahaba Medical Care is a non-profit Community Health Center located in Centreville and Brent, Alabama approximately two blocks from the Cahaba River. Founded on July 19th, 2004, we are celebrating 11 joyful years of service to people of Bibb and Perry County. Additionally, all proceeds from the race will go toward our new Community Center, which includes a Food and Clothes Closet, as well as free Job Training and Retraining Classes. The race itself starts and ends on the clinic and hospital campuses, crosses the beautiful Cahaba River twice, with a scenic view of historic downtown Centreville. We will have liberal hydration stations with sprinklers, so brave the heat! The 5k welcomes all ages and all skill levels. Feel free to race hard for your age-group prize, or feel free to walk or jog your first 5k with other first-timers. The 1 mile fun run is geared towards kids and will follow the 5k, but start at the 5k finish line.
Event details and schedule
The race starts at 6:30pm
Packet-pickup begins at 5:15pm and concludes around 6:15pm. We want all racers in place by 6:15pm for an on-time 6:30pm start.
Parking will be available at Cahaba Medical Care (405 Belcher Street) and neighboring Bibb Medical Center (208 Pierson Avenue). Race end will be one block away at the "old" Cahaba Medical Care (195 Hospital Drive). Same day registration is allowed, but T-shirts are not guaranteed if not pre-registered. The 5k will start promptly at 6:30pm. The course has liberal hydration stations with periodic sprinklers, so feel free to brave the heat! Racers will run east from Cahaba Medical Care, making their way to the scenic Cahaba Riverwalk. You will exit the Cahaba Riverwalk behind the Bibb County Chamber of Commerce, where you will find the hydration station. Then you will cross the Cahaba River and run a short but steep incline into the heart of historic downtown Centreville. The second hydration station will be at The Studio – Centreville's non-profit music, dance, and activity left. What goes up must come down! And now racers get about a half-mile downhill reprieve, back toward Cahaba Medical Care. Racers will turn right at Twix-n-Tween, foreshadowing the BBQ Dinner awaiting them at the finish. The final mile or so will be a loop around the midtown healthcare district. At least two hydration stations will be available in this area. The FINISH LINE will be at the "old" Cahaba Medical Care, now serving as the "new" Cahaba Medical Care Community Center (195 Hospital Drive). There will be activities and food and FUN at the finish line, which is about 1 block from the starting line / parking. The 1 mile run run will start at the 5k finish line and be a safe and simple loop around the hospital and clinic campuses.
