About This Activity

One of the area’s oldest events, this race has been run since the late 70’s. The race, which starts and finishes at the Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary, is managed by the Department of Parks, Recreational and Cultural Resources in Cary.

In April of 2014, over 1,000 people participated. Omar Wiggans won the 10K in 34:45 and Melissa Hardesty (38:09) was the overall winner in the women’s competition. Kaleb Keyserling holds the men’s course record (32:50), while Tara Wojciechowski (36:41) holds the women’s course record.

In the 5K Glen Wright Colopy won that race after covering the course in 16:32. Melissa Coleman was the top woman finisher in 21:03. Peter Ellis (15:57 and Brennan Liming (18:13) hold the course marks in the 5K.

The 10K is also the fourth race in the Second Empire 2015 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series.
