About This Activity
RIDE WITH THE PRO!
Come and ride in a control pace “PELOTON” and feel like you are in the Tour de France!!
This is the First annual Raul Alcala Challenge / Gran Fondo Brownsville on August 23rd 2015, the first hosted in Brownsville TX and in the US.
The Raul Alcala Challenge / Gran Fondo Brownsville showcases the Mexican – American border site and the Historical Downtown Brownsville, the course is on the Lower Rio Grande Valley and the stunning beauty of best Texan beach on the Gulf of Mexico at South Padre Island.
While the route is flat, distance, heat and wind provides ample challenges.
It’s a RIDE not a RACE!
COME AND MAKE HISTORY!
This is the first time a bike ride or event crosses the SPI causeway twice in same day, stunning views of the water from the top of the bridge on both directions, so come and join us on this new experience. The bridge will have only one lane closed on both directions the riders need to be crossing the casuseway not later than 9:30am and on the way back by 11:30am.
2015 Raul Alcala Gran Fondo / Challenge in Brownsville – The first inaugural Gran Fondo in the RGV area is hosted in Historic Brownsville, we are expecting about 1000 + riders, riding the two distances in hot weather conditions. While the course is completely flat, trade winds and hot Gulf sun added two unique challenging elements for all event participants.
Raul Alcala Gran Fondo / Challenge “The First Gran Fondo in Texas Paradise” riders had the choice between the 100mi / 160km “long route” and the 60mi / 96km “medium route”. Both routes started and finished in the heart of Downtown Brownsville, this is the first time a bike ride or event crosses the causeway twice in same day.
Recharge batteries and water at the pit stops along the route.
Everyone will enjoy riding in the spectacular paced Peloton through a course in a beautiful sunny weather with temperatures reaching 35C/95F. Riders will travel from all over Texas, California, Las Vegas, and Mexico.
