About This Activity

Walk, Run or Jog your way through the Orange Groves! LECOM and Mixon's Fruit Farm are co-hosting the biannual Run through the Groves 5K series on November 22, 2015. Mixon's Fruit Farm is hosting their Harvest Festival alongside our 5K Run/1 mile walk on a unique trail through the Mixon Fruit Farms orange groves.  All participants will receive a completion medal and the top 3 male and female competitors will receive placement medals. Registration fees include entrance to the Harvest Festival and a T-shirt.  Register before November 13, 2015, to guarantee a T-shirt in your size.  Come for the run and stay for the festival which will include circus shows, antique car shows, bounce houses, rock wall climbing and over 70 stands of crafts, local artists and vendors.

Our inaugural race this past spring was a huge success and we are excited to expand to two races this year.  The two race series will be on November 22, 2015 and March 6, 2016. Runners that participate in both races are eligible to receive a prize upon finishing the second race in March.

Event details and schedule

The registration table will be located near the start/finish line in the back parking lot of Mixon's Fruit Farms.  Fit2Run will host a packet pick up party on November 19, 2015 from 5-8 pm. Fit2Run is located in the UTC mall at 140 Suite 110, University Town Center Drive, Sarasota, Florida. Those who did not register or pick up their packets can do so at the registration table up to race time.

The 5K race will start promptly at 8 am followed by the start of the 1 mile walk at 8:30 am. Runners and walkers can help themselves to a post-race breakfast provided by our wonderful sponsors while they cool down and wait for the announcement of the winners of each division.

There will be LECOM volunteers spread throughout the course to direct participants along with a water station at the 1.5 mile mark.  Manatee County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will be on site the morning of the race.
