About This Activity

Shaare Torah Jewish Community, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the Islamic Society of the Washington Area are partnering to create the first annual Montgomery County Interfaith 5K. Our goal is to bring together communities of faith in the county so people from diverse backgrounds can join forces to share a fun and health-promoting activity, teach tolerance through exposure and friendship and enjoy each other’s company. We are still seeking partners in this endeavor. Any interested religious institutions may email for more information.

The MoCo Interfaith 5k is an inclusive event, designed to bring together people of different backgrounds to meet, socialize and work together to better the entire community. While many attendees are people of faith, the event respects all backgrounds and does not embrace any one religion or belief system. Religious services, proselytizing and preaching are not part of the public program and should not be practiced at the MoCo Interfaith 5k.

Religious groups like the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities USA, Lutheran Services in America, and Jewish Family Services have long been among the leading providers of social services in many parts of the United States.  A portion of the proceeds from the 2016 Montgomery County Interfaith 5K will continue those traditions by supporting the local Gaithersburg Community.  In 2016, race profits will be donated to Gaithersburg HELP, a faith-based emergency assistance provider.

Gaithersburg Help:  To meet the immediate needs of families affected by financial challenges, local churches and synagogues joined together to form Gaithersburg HELP in an effort to provide short-term assistance in a coordinated fashion.  Today, our network is comprised of more than 25 member congregations and 160 volunteers working together to help those in need within the greater Gaithersburg area. We also receive substantial support from local businesses and civic organizations. A team of committed translators help us serve our diverse community, especially Spanish-speaking clients.
