Seventh Annual Charles River One Mile Swim
Sat, Jun 6, 2015
About This Activity
The Seventh Annual Charles River One Mile Swim will take place on June 6, 2015. The rain date is July 19, 2015. The swim is sanctioned by United States Masters Swimming, sanction number 025-W002. The swim is sponsored by the Charles River Swimming Club, an organization founded in 2005 and dedicated to organizing competitive swimming events in the Charles River and facilitating the return of public river swimming. This is the organization's main yearly event. The race is a one mile, single loop course betwen the Harvard and Longfellow bridges in the Charles River. Please take note that only pre-registered swimmers are allowed to compete.
The water temperature on race day has historically been 70 degrees or above. Wet suits are allowed, unless the water temperature exceeds 78 degrees (per USMS rules). Please take particular caution that this swim is not for novices; it is for experienced open-water swimmers only. At a minimum you should be able to swim one mile comfortably in under 40 minutes. Additionally, USMS membership is required. Day-long membership is $10 and can be purchased as part of the online registration. The race is dependent on weather conditions and may be canceled under adverse conditions. Swimmers may encounter random jetsam and flotsam in the river.
