About This Activity

To log your miles:
Click RESULTS on the top bar, and then the orange “Submit Virtual Results” button at the top of that page. The next screen will have participant lookup fields where you can search for your name. You will be able to submit miles you’ve covered by walking or running on the next screen by clicking the "Log Activities" button. This is also the best way to do it if one family member is logging miles for multiple people. (If you can't find your name through the search, you may not be registered for the event yet.)

More people than ever are taking to the sidewalks to stay healthy, get to work, and safely connect with people during COVID 19. Starting November 1st, we’re challenging you to compete in the Beat the Bay State Challenge!

Log miles on foot to virtually trace the perimeter of Massachusetts in 30 days. Your participation will support WalkBoston’s work to advocate for wider sidewalks, support main street businesses and make streets safer for all!

WalkBoston is celebrating 30 years of statewide work to make Massachusetts more walkable. Combine efforts with a group of friends, co-workers, or family to cover the distance (900 miles) by walking or running. Your combined miles will add up through the challenge platform and move you along a virtual route that traces the outline of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

This November, circle the Commonwealth with the “Beat the Bay State” team challenge. The set up is simple:

  • Month-long challenge (Nov 1st-30th)
  • $20 entry per person
  • No limits on team size, you can tackle the Challenge by yourself or with 100 friends!
  • Walk/run wherever you are
  • As you log miles, your team will move along a route of the 900 mile perimeter of Massachusetts
  • Earn fun badges showing your progress as you travel around the state
  • Compete against other teams to see who can:
    • Build the biggest team!
    • Raise the most money!
    • Finish the Challenge first!
  • Prizes for top performers
  • Event swag available on our website (coming soon)
  • Raise money for a fantastic organization!

Want to get involved but not able to field a team on your own? Sponsorship opportunities may be available! Please contact our Development Director, Althea Wong-Achorn, at if you would like to apply.
