About This Event
Hope Haven and The 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office believe that we are all “Everyday Heroes” when we work together as a community to keep our children safe.
Hope Haven has partnered with The Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office to host the first annual “Everyday Heroes 5k Race”. The Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office is the chief prosecuting agency for Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, Colleton, and Allendale County. Their primary goal is to prosecute all cases in General Sessions Court, certain misdemeanors in Magistrate’s Court and all criminal cases in Family Court. Each year, they prosecute approximately 6,000 cases. The office is led by Solicitor Duffie Stone, one of our many “Everyday Heroes.”
Hope Haven of the Lowcountry is our local Children’s Advocacy Center and Rape Crisis Center. They serve children that have been sexually abused, physically abused, neglected, and witnessed a crime. Hope Haven also serves adult survivors of rape. Hope Haven provides free evidenced based counseling services, 24/7 crisis line, forensic interviews, prevention and outreach programs, and victim advocacy to over 1,400 primary and secondary victims in the year 2015, that reside within the 14th judicial circuit.
The goal of this race is to raise awareness on the sensitive subject matter of Childhood Sexual and Physical Abuse, as well as raise funds to provide direct services to children and their families that are beginning their journey to healing from the abuse/trauma.
The “Everyday Heroes 5K Run/Walk” will start and finish in the area located in front of the Bluffton Police Department, off of Buckwalter Parkway. Runners/walkers will take route on the Buckwalter Greenway Trail that wraps around Buckwalter Place. The route will have you cruising through pine forests and along lagoons. The trail will be well marked and volunteers with water will be located along the route.
Race directing and professionally chipped timed by Palmetto Running Company.
After Party hosted by Southern Barell Brewing. All runners over 21 receive a free beer.
