About This Activity

The Urban Purpose Challenge will take place Saturday, August 29th starting around 7am until 1pm. 

ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES AT NOON ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 27. INDIVIDUALS MAY STILL REGISTER IN PERSON AT THE CHRISTIAN LIFE CENTER AT SHADES MOUNTAIN BAPTIST CHURCH. HOURS ARE 8:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.RACE DAY REGISTRATION WILL BE AT THE PAVILION FROM 7:00 A.M. - 7:45 A.M.

The Urban Purpose Challenge will raise funds for Urban Purpose. This ministry serves the homeless, poor, broken and needy in Birmingham, AL. The challenge is being hosted by Shades Mountain Baptist Church and will be held on the church property. The 5K will run through the beautiful rolling hills neighborhoods behind the church off of Columbiana. The Team WOD (Workout of the Day) event will include eight different stations around the parking lot. Each station will have a five-minute time cap and will be judged by the speed of completion or number of reps. The Kid's Mess Fest will take place on the field at the church. There will be water games, slip n slides and inflatables for kids. Be sure they wear swimsuits. It's sure to be messy and festive! Parents may bring registered children ages 4-12 to the field before the race and stay and play until 1pm!

For the 5K- Prizes will be given to the male and female overall winners as well as for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the following age group divisions for men and women:

14 and under, 15-19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 and up.

For the Team WODs- Prizes will be given to the winning male team, female team, and coed team. 

If you would like to further support Urban Purpose, bring a snack bag donation item on packet pickup or race day. Appropriate items include multi-packs of peanut butter crackers or cheese crackers, granola bars, juice boxes, individual apple sauce or fruit cups, peanuts or small bottles of water (all non-perishable). These are packed in ziploc bags and given out at the meal served on Sundays so that the homeless might have them during the week.

Kid's Mess Fest Location:  Pavilion and Field at Shades Mountain Baptist Church

Event Parking: Parking will be located at the north parking lot on Vestaview across the street from Shades and the Northwest parking lot on the corner of Columbiana and Shades Crest Road.

Packet Pick Up Schedule: Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 29 from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
