Smile-A-Mile's Mission: Smile-A-Mile’s mission is to provide hope, healing of the spirit and love for the whole family during the childhood cancer journey. Through year-round meaningful and educational programming, Smile-A-Mile helps those in Alabama who are affected by childhood cancer thrive during treatment and the years beyond. About Smile-A-Mile: Smile-A-Mile (formerly Camp Smile-A-Mile) was established in 1985 to serve the children of Alabama battling cancer while also being a source of support for their families. Starting with a single, week-long camp that welcomed patients of all ages, SAM has grown to include year-round programming at Children's of Alabama and seven camp sessions each summer. We are the only pediatric oncology organization in the state to offer such extensive programming for the entire family. In 2017, we moved to Smile-A-Mile Place in downtown Birmingham just blocks from Children’s of Alabama. SAM Place will allow us to expand our year-round programs and increase the number of families we are able to reach. SAM’s permanent campsite for summer sessions is located at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin.
