About This Activity

Today Alex is home after a lengthy stay at the New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center at Boston Medical Center. He is adapting well to his new life. If you followed his progress through daily posts to the CaringBridge website you know that he made tremendous progress after being admitted to Boston Medical Center. What most don’t realize are the overwhelming expenses facing Alex as a result of his accident and his ongoing care. While the Affordable Care Act allows Alex to continue to be covered under his parent’s health insurance, he still faces significant out of pocket expenses for deductibles, co-payments, and ongoing exercise therapy not deemed “medically necessary” but which greatly improves his strength, balance, and quality of life. Additional expenses include the daily care that he now requires and a handicap accessible vehicle to allow him to travel to outpatient rehabilitation appointments, exercise therapy at Journey Forward in Canton, Massachusetts, and the part-time job he just started. To help with the cost of these uninsured expenses, and to modify a vehicle, a fundraising campaign in Alex’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly thirty years. In 2000 they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only. Please consider making a contribution to help Alex regain his independence by running or walking a 5k in his honor. Make checks payable to: HelpHOPELive and note in memo section: In honor of Alex Paul. Additional donations can be made at the registration table on race day or donations can be sent to: HelpHOPELive Two Radnor Corporate Center 100 Matsonford Road Suite 100 Radnor, PA 19087. For credit card contributions, please call 800-642-8399 or visit and enter Alex Paul in the “Find a Patient” box on the home page. Thanks for your help and support. Andy & Pris Paul Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law. This campaign is administered by HelpHOPELive (National Transplant Assistance Fund, Inc.), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing fundraising assistance to transplant and catastrophic injury patients. Information: 800.642.8399.
