Sat, Oct 25, 2014
Bell Gardens, CA
About This Activity
End the cycling season by meeting old friends and making new ones in the expected 1000+ riders who come each year to enjoy the Lions Club's Tour De Sewer. Moved to October to avoid those winter doldrums and wet weather experienced over the last few years. Touted as the best organized bike ride in the area, the Tour de Sewer offers your choice of interesting 15, 25, 50 and 60 mile fun bike rides, not races. The rides will leave the John Anson Ford Park in Bell Gardens, starting at 7:30 AM. The 60 mile route will proceed north to base of foothills, then turn south on streets to Turnbull Canyon Road, Over the top and into Whittier and return to the bike path to the finish. On the 50 mile course, the only hill is the face of Santa Fe Dam. On the 25 mile course there no hills to climb and descend, the course is relatively flat. The 15 mile course is flat. WE WILL RIDE RAIN OR SHINE.
The Tour de Sewer is not a race and is open to all individuals, clubs and teams who wish to participate. There is no age limit, but riders should be physically fit, and should have previously been on a ride of this distance.
Support The course will be marked at each turn. Volunteers will be on the course and at the park to provide first-aid. Downey Amateur Radio Club will again be providing radio communications over the entire course. Rest stops will be set up along each route with water and refreshments. Roving mechanical support will also be provided to assist when needed or to transport stranded cyclists back to the park.
Safety and Rules The use of ANSI or SNELL approved helmets is required. The Tour de Sewer is not a race. Slower riders must stay to the right, faster riders must make their presence known when passing. All bicycles should be checked by an experienced bicycle mechanic or your favorite bike shop (especially brakes and tires).
