About This Activity
BarnArts Race around the Lake Welcomes All Ages on 3-Mile Course At 10:30 a.m. May 18 at Silver Lake State Park
BarnArts Center for the Arts will host a fundraising Race around the Lake beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday May 18 at Barnard’s Silver Lake State Park. The first race of this annual all-ages event will raise scholarships funds for children attending this summer’s 3rd Annual Summer Youth Institute, which includes a full production of Willi Wonka to be performed Aug 8-10 at the Barnard Town Hall. “This is the first year of an event we are hoping will become an annual favorite in Barnard,” says BarnArts Founding Artistic and Executive Director Jarvis Green. “Silver Lake State Park will just be springing to life, which makes it a perfect time of year for bringing the community together in celebration of health, youth, and creative expression.” Participants may preregister online at Active.com or between 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. on race day. A link to registration is available on the barnarts.org website.
The three-mile run/walk includes a significant portion of woods trail around the back side of Silver Lake. There will also be a waterfront kid’s fun run at the park after the race. Start times are 10:30 a.m. for runners, 10:35 a.m. for walkers. The entry fee is $20 for adults and $10 for ages under 12. The first 100 to register will receive a free T-shirt. All can enjoy a post-race lunch catered by the Barnard Inn and live music along the waterfront. The kids’ fun run, a free event for kids 10 and under, will be held after awards ceremony. Runners can park at Silver Lake State Park with overflow parking at Barnard Town Hall.
