Run For Maine Heroes is dedicated to honoring Maine’s Fallen Heroes, from all foreign wars, and their families, known as Gold Star Families. Their sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters all made the Ultimate Sacrifice. While these true American heroes are honored, their families are all too often forgotten.
Run For Maine Heroes is a fundraiser for Maine's Gold Star Families, by the Citizens of the State of Maine.
Run For Maine Heroes will consist of four running relay teams starting from North (Fort Kent), South (Kittery), East (Calais), and West (Gilead). Over 40 hours, these runners will cover varying distances, finishing at the University of Maine at Orono's Field House on Veterans Day.
In total, 700 miles will be covered; 235 5K’s run; with 60 runners and 60 support staff to raise a goal of $75,000. In addition to running the miles, this event specifically brings to light the need for a Maine Gold Star Family Memorial, honoring our fallen and their families by bringing awareness to their lives and sacrifice.
