About This Activity
Who we are:
Loving Arms, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3), grass roots, community based organization located in Baltimore City, Maryland that provides short term, safe and nurturing shelter and supportive services (both residential and non-residential ) to youth who are runaway, homeless, unstably housed and/or at risk of becoming homeless, and their families.
The Administration for Children and Families statistics guesstimate that between 500,000 and 1.5 million youth run away from or are thrown out of their homes each year, and a predicted 200,000are without a roof over their heads and living on the streets.
We currently provide up to 21 days of shelter for up to 8 youth between the ages of 12 and 21, male and/or female, at a time. We just purchased two additional houses that will allow us to serve additional youth and young adults up to age 24.We anticipate that this expansion will allow us to serve an additional 120 youth annually, either residentially or non-residentially. Youth and their families will receive:
●24 hour individualized intake and needs assessment;
●Service planning and case management;
●Shelter, food and Clothing, as needed;
●Support and advocacy with the local school system;
●Individual, group and family counseling;
● Job readiness, placement and independent living skills training
●Parenting Skills and Support Services, when needed;
●Discharge planning, including assurance of transition to a safe setting within the community after discharge; and
●Aftercare for at least 90 days, with continued case management, referral and counseling services
Since we have been providing these services for the last 5 years we have:
1 .Reduced the number of homeless and unstably housed youth and young adults in the State of Maryland, specifically those in Baltimore City and helped these youth transition into permanent housing more rapidly.
2. Reduced the number of youth and young adults involved in criminal activity, incarceration and recidivism rates,
3.Increased the employment rate among young adults in the State of Maryland and Baltimore City, by teaching life/job skills that showed them how to be positive contributors to our economy, and
4. Increased the number of young adults enrolled in higher education in the State of Maryland and Baltimore City, which allows them to be competitive when applying for jobs that pay a livable wage.
Through successes in achieving these goals and objectives, we have ultimately increased the earning power in the city and reduced government spending on programs like building new prisons to incarcerate our youth, costly treatment to deal with addictions, mental and physical health issues, to include disease transmission such as HIV and Aids, which sometimes is prevalent among our homeless populations.
Event details and schedule
