Cycling-Metric Century - Individual Age group/open
About This Activity
The 20th annual Roan Moan offers a strenuous metric and century ride, followed by our famous barbecue dinner.
Both rides tour the old Tweetsie Railroad Grade and Doe River before the 7 mile "Moan" up and over Roan Mountain, where a thrilling descent brings you home.
This year we will return to the familiar Century ride that explores the hills of northern Mitchell County, Spivey Gap, and the back roads from Erwin to Unicoi. If you've ever wanted to do this Century, this is your chance! We may not offer it again!
Event details and schedule
The Century ride starts at 7AM, and the Metric at 8. It's possible for riders on different courses to ride the later part of the course together. Course maps are visible at:
It can be really hot, but it's been known to be cold and wet early in the day and on the mountain, so we strongly advise you bring a rain jacket. Plenty of food and Gatorade will be available at the 4 rest stops on the Metric course (5 on the Century) but if you plan to bypass any of the stops you will need to bring extra fuel.
