About This Activity
On April 11, 2015 hundreds of Rexstrong supporters will come together to run with and to honor Rex Ryan. This 2nd Annual event will also celebrate this mighty man’s third birthday! Run With Rex 2015 will take place at the Austin State Supported Living Center at 2203 West 35th Street, Austin, Texas 78703.
Rex was diagnosed on September 12, 2013 with Stage Four Neuroblastoma Cancer, at the age of 18 months. Since then, he and his amazing family have faced each day ready to win, demonstrating courage and strength every step of the way in fighting this disease. His many battles included 7 rounds of chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, 12 sessions of radiation and 6 rounds of immunotherapy. Since his diagnosis, he has spent more than 200 nights inpatient, predominantly at Dell Children’s (their “home away from home,” for which they are so grateful). Rex also spent one month in Houston at Texas Children’s Hospital for his conditioning chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. Rex has had 14 surgeries and more than fifty blood transfusions during this time. Rex’s most recent scans in October and again in January continue to show no evidence of disease, conveying no cancer is present. He is an amazing fighter and Rexstrong is a more than fitting name to describe this happy little warrior.
This celebration goes beyond honoring one child battling cancer, however. Together, with your support, Rex, his family hope, and the sea of supporters around them strive to improve the lives of children everywhere in seeking a cure for cancer, with a specific emphasis on pediatric cancer research. Please join us in honoring this mighty man and supporting other children who are fighting this disease. Proceeds from the run will benefit The Dell Children’s Cancer Endowment Fund Established in Honor of Rex Ryan and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Because less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is directed to childhood cancer research, we are committed to helping in every way we can to fund pediatric cancer research and to save lives. The family hopes to someday “eradicate the word [cancer] altogether”, and they’re driven to ensure no family has to endure the fear, heartache, and trauma of a cancer diagnosis.
