About This Activity
Join Historic Oakland Foundation for the 9th annual Run Like Hell 5K and Run Like Heck 1K on October 15, 2016! The largest cemetery run in the country, Run Like Hell is one of Atlanta's favorite neighborhood 5K fundraisers.
Run Like Hell is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier, and covers several areas of Oakland Cemetery, including the historic Jewish grounds, Confederate section, new Beaumont Allen Greenhouse, Hogpen Corner, and Knit Mill, as well as the Grant Park neighborhood. All proceeds from Run Like Hell/Run Like Heck benefit Historic Oakland Foundation's misison to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta's oldest public burial ground.
Walkers, leashed dogs, and strollers are welcome. The race closes out at 1,600 participants, so be sure to register early!

Race check-in is from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. at Lion Square. Race participants can check bags, jackets, and other items at this time.
Run Like Hell begins at 9 a.m., Run Like Heck begins at 10:15 a.m.
Unique Oakland Cemetery awards will be given to the overall male and female winners and the masters male and female finishers and the top 3 M/F finishers in the following age groups:
Children 12 and under and invited to Run Like Heck, and all 1K finishers will receive a participation ribbon.
All pre-registered runners will receive a commemorative Halloween-themed Run Like Hell T-shirt.
RACE DAY PACKET PICK UP
Race day packet and T-Shirt pick up is available only for out of town runners or emergencies. Day-of pickup is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Lion Square.
Parking is available at the lot adjacent to Oakland Cemetery's main gate at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Oakland Avenue. Limited parking is also available on surrounding streets. No vehicles will be permitted inside the cemetery during the race. Attendees are encouraged to ride MARTA (King Memorial Station), carpool, or utilize alternate means of transportation.
HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST
Get into the spirit of the season and join the Run Like Hell costume contest! Prizes will be awarded to the most creative costumes in the following categories: Best Adult Male, Best Adult Female, Best Group, Best Child (12 & under), Best Dog
All Run Like Hell and Run Like Heck participants are invited to stay after the race for a complimentary offering of Oakland Cemetery's "History, Mystery, and Mayhem" guided walking tour:

Hear the stories that defy explanation and eerie events that have passed into local legend, from mysterious burials to deaths occurring under peculiar circumstances. Explore the final resting place of Atlantans both prominent and unknown, but united in Oakland’s rich history. While not all of the endings are happy, these stories helped shape the Atlanta that lives on today.
