About This Activity
Co-chaired by Lovette Russell and Stephanie V. Blank, youthSparks Route 2 Change Duathlon and 5K will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center in the Yellow Parking Lot at the corner of Ivan Allen and Northside Drive in Atlanta.
Participating in the Route 2 Change Duathlon and 5K will allow you to be a part of an experience, not just a fundraising or awareness event. Funds from this event directly support youthSparks efforts to end child sex trafficking through prevention and youth empowered education.
We understand that NO child wakes up at 16 and decides to be a prostitute. There is a range of events that happen well before exploitation and we seek to provide resources and education to prevent this form of child abuse from affecting our community. When childrens lives intersect with the juvenile justice and social service systems, they have inevitably suffered some sort of trauma, whether emotional, psychological, and/or physical, or financial hardships. Unfortunately, this trauma is usually a result of circumstances over which they have little control.
youthSpark seeks to improve the lives of children that have been exploited, abused, or neglected and are committed to identifying and addressing the needs of at-risk children and their families. We ignite justice and inspire change to ensure children live stronger, better and more productive lives without exploitation, abuse, and hopelessness. We want to ultimately change the system, so that future generations will not be faced with the same challenges.
youthSpark, n. A growing movement of pioneers - youth and adults alike, committed to ending child sex trafficking through prevention programs, youth-empowered education, research and advocacy. We work to transform the lives of children who have been exploited, abused and neglected, because NO CHILD wakes up at 16 and chooses to be prostituted.
We pioneered the movement to end child sex trafficking in Georgia over a decade ago and are nationally recognized as a thought leader, providing support and advice to similar programs around the country. Sadly, child sex trafficking is a business driven by the basic laws of economics: supply and demand. youthSpark seeks to combat this most heinous form of child abuse on both of these fronts. Our A Future. Not A Past. Campaign fights demand through research, advocacy to alert the community about this problem, and lobbying for stronger laws to punish the adults involved in this crime. youthSpark Voices seeks to halt supply by identifying and working with at-risk girls, in partnership with Fulton County Juvenile Court, to prevent them from becoming trafficking victims. Together, we can break the cycle.
