About This Activity
Dude, it's only a mile! The Morningside Mile is Atlanta's only competitive 1-mile race that awards its fastest runners with cash prizes. Great swag & block party. Runners of all skill levels from beginners to moms with jog strollers and competitive runners are encouraged to don their running shoes for what promises to be a fun race & great after-party. 100% profits will be donated to help save Atlanta's oldest fire station, the Historic Virginia Highland fire staiton 19. For more info, visit www.morningsidemile.com.
Fire Station 19 is Atlanta’s oldest continuously operating station. Located in the heart of the historic Virginia Highland neighborhood, the station has been a neighborhood landmark for more than 90 years. Based on its age, station 19 was on the City of Atlanta's replacement list for 2016. Thanks to grassroots support of Morningside Mile and other local efforts, the station is no longer on the chopping block, but renovations cannot begin until we meet the fundraising goal. We’re on the home stretch! Please help us in our effort to raise funds to repair the firehouse and keep it in service. You can help save this historic resource that is central to our safety and community life by registering to run the Morningside Mile and encouraging others to join you. 100% of race profits will be donated to the station 19 renovation fund!
THIS IS A POINT TO POINT RACE. The race starts at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Lanier Boulevard. Runners should gather on Lanier Boulevard just north of Virginia Avenue at 11:45am. Those wishing to participate in the FitWit 10 minute warm-up should arrive before 11:40. Racers will be escorted to starting line. The race ends on North Highland in front of Morningside Village.
The race will start at noon in three waves:
Wave 1 – Elites. 6 minute mile or faster.
Wave 2 – Amateurs. 6-9 minute mile runners. No kids under 16.
Wave 3 – Weekend Warriors / Families. Runners & joggers (9 minute mile or slower): please line-up in front. Walkers, strollers & small children: please line-up in back for the safety of everyone.
Parking is available on the streets surrounding the race venue, but please do not block driveways. We recommend you park close to the finish line & walk/run to the start so you can enjoy the post-race block party. Please note that the Morningside Village, Alon's, & Coldwell Banker parking lots will be closed. There should be plenty of on street parking on Lanier Blvd, University Avenue, North Morningside Drive, Lanier Place & Cumberland Drive. MARTA services the neighborhood.
THE BLOCK PARTY (noon - 2pm) Invite your friends & family to cheer you on at the finish line & enjoy block party festivities. Meet our neighborhood fire-fighters and enjoy music, food & family fun for all ages. Sign-up in advance to participate in the Doc Chey's Noodle Eating Contest.
