Running with the Story 5K Run/ Walk for Literacy is a special event to help raise awareness and DO SOMETHING about the nearly 900,000 adults in metro Atlanta living with low literacy skills. Low literacy is one of the root causes of poverty, un- and under-employment, homelessness, and poor health outcomes – all of which have vast implications in terms of the cost to society.

This event is organized by the Literacy Alliance of Metro Atlanta (LAMA). LAMA is a coalition of 30+ member organization and exists to provide visibility for the issue of low literacy and its impact on our community; to provide visibility for its member organizations in their work to combat low literacy; to develop and implement a viable model for expansion of literacy programming; and to offer a single marketing and funding mechanism for the member organizations so that they are free to deliver “more mission.”

The Running with the Story 5K Run/ Walk for Literacy is a profit sharing fundraiser and 50% of every registration fee goes to the organization of the registrant’s choice. The other 50% of the registration fee helps LAMA to serve as a centralized coalition for marketing, funding and member programming.

This is a family-friendly event, and we would love to see you there. Bring your family, bring the stroller, bring your running shoes—there is something for everyone! Illiteracy touches all of our lives, so please come out and enjoy the park, support the cause, and help the dozens of literacy service providers throughout metro Atlanta make a difference.
