About This Activity
Take part in the Run the Rift Fun Run sponsored by the Craters of the Moon Natural History Association. This family friendly event offers a 5k and a 10k run/walk, great for all ages and abilities. Registration fees support Craters of the Moon field trip and educational programs for Idaho school children. Park Entrance is free as the event takes place on Nation Pulic Lands Day. Space is limited to the first 100 participants. Children age 10 and under can run for free with a registered parent/guardian, but they will not receive a t-shirt or goodie bag. Registration form and waiver will still need to be filled out by parent/guardian.
Event details and schedule
Fun Run begins at 8:00 a.m, so be sure to check in by 7:30 a.m. so you have time to pick up your race packet and get to the starting line. Both 5k and 10K will start at the North Craters Flow Parking lot. Walking is an option for both distances. Strollers are allowed. The 5K will go out to Devil's Orchard and back to finish line at Entrance Station. 10K will go around the loop road running against flow of traffic and finish at Entrance Station. Parking is limited so if and where possible please commute with friends and family. You will be met by a parking attendant as you pull in to the park and you will be directed for parking and check-in.
You must fill out and sign the Mandatory Waiver or registration will not be valid. Bring your running gear for the race and some hiking gear to change in to, as there is an awesome park to explore. There will be Wilderness Celebration Activities for the whole family, so be prepared with the kids to check out the Puppet Show at 11 a.m. There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Tree Molds parking lot at 1:30 p.m. to celebrate the Craters of the Moon Wilderness, the first to be established in the National Park Service.
Same day registration is allowed but please arrive early to be able to take care of everything before race time.
