About This Activity

The Learning Tree serves children, ages 2 -21, with developmental disabilities, including autism. These children are faced with significant language and communication difficulties along with challenging behaviors. An individualized, instructional program is provided in a nurturing, supportive environment using applied behavior analysis principles.

The Learning Tree, a private nonprofit school, was founded in 1983 by two public school teachers. The first residential school was established in Mobile, Alabama with the founders’ personal funds to serve four children.

  • More than 600 children are served annually from across Alabama.
  • Children are served in 7 community based school locations in Auburn, Anniston, Jacksonville, Mobile and Tallassee.
  • More than 100 children are served in 36 residential homes, 24 hours a day, year-round.
  • Children and families are provided in excess of 60,000 days of service annually.
  • Consultations are provided for public school systems in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi
