About This Activity
Almost 3 years ago we found out that our son Caleb would be born with something called fibular hemimelia. This meant he was missing his fibula bone in his lower leg, so his ankle and foot would not develop properly. At the age of 10 months (May 8, 2013), Caleb had to have amputation surgery, so that he could be fitted for a prosthetic leg. Ever since then he has been thriving! Despite challenges he may face, nothing can slow down this happy, energetic 2 year old!
This 5K and Fun Run event is to benefit the Scott Rigsby Foundation, which helps raise money for amputees, and wounded soldiers. Scott was the first double amputee to finish the Hawaiian Ironman race. He as wrote a book entitled Unthinkable, detailing his journey as an amputee, and an Ironman. Scott has become an inspiration, and a friend.
The race will be held Saturday, May 2, 2015 on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University. The start/finish line will be in the softball field parking lot, across from the tennis courts. The Fun Run will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the 5K will start at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is $15 for the Fun Run, and $20 for the 5K. Race day registration will be $20 for Fun Run, and $25 for the 5K. Awards will be given for overall, masters, and individual age groups. Packet pick-up will be Friday, May 1 from 5-7 p.m. at Clinic Drug Store, 1001 E. Forsyth Street Americus, GA 31709. Scott Rigsby will be on hand to sign copies of his book Unthinkable.
