About This Activity
Footsteps for Recovery
The F4R 5K is dedicated to providing awareness, support, & resources for Footsteps for Recovery, formerly PENED.
The PA Educational Network for Eating Disorders (PENED) was founded in 1984 by its Executive Director, Anita Sinicrope Maier, MSW. With new services, including Partial IOP Treatment, Maier has established Footsteps for Recovery to absorb PENED and include new and developing services.
The Footsteps for Recovery organization and its Partial Outpatient Treatment Program are the ONLY of their kind in Western PA and surrounding areas.
In the United States, approximately 20 million females and 10 million males suffer from a clinically significant Eating Disorder in their lifetime. Currently, 2.3 million women and 800 thousand men suffer from bulimia. Only 1 in 10 people with eating disorders receive treatment. Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. The mortality rate associated with Anorexia Nervosa is 12 times higherthan the death rate of ALL causes of death for females 15-24 years old.
We are asking for your support in the fight against these serious and potentially life threatening illnesses.
