About This Activity

Race course:

Swim:

Distance:

5 years of age to 9 years of age will swim 50 yards- 2 lengths of pool. 

10 years of age to 16 years of age will swim 100 yards- 4 lengths of pool.

Swim will take place in the Dorchester swim pool. The race will begin at 7:30am with the first athlete.  An athlete will start every 20 seconds for ages 10 to 16 years of age and every 30 seconds for each athlete at 5 years of age to 9 years of age.  Athletes will exit the pool deck up the ramp to the transition area in the parking lot where the athletes will put on shoes, shorts, t-shirt, helmet, and race number which should be displayed on the body.

Bike:

Athletes will be required to walk their bicycle out of the transition area in the mounting area on Arlington lane.  Athletes will exit the transition area through the bike entrance and exit (only).  Helmet must be secured to Athlete to exit transition area and mount bicycle.

Distance:

5 years of age to 9 years of age will bike approximately 1.01 miles.

10 years of age to 16 years of age will bike approximately 2.2 miles.

Directions:

5 years of age to 9 years of age will leave on Arlington Drive.  Left on 74th Street , Left on Dorchester going west,  the athlete will turn around at the end of Dorchester and return to 74th St taking a right and right on Arlington Drive.  Athlete must dismount at line and put bike back in transition area.

10 years of age to 16 years of age will leave on Arlington Drive.  Left on 74th Street,  Left on Dorchester going west,  Right on English Lane, Left on Pebble Drive,  Right on Deer Run Road, Left on Oak Hill Road, Athletes will go around the Oak Hill Road circle and then return on Oak Hill Road, Right on Deer Run Road, Left on Pebble Drive Road, Right on English Road, Left on Dorchester going East , Right on 74th  Street, Right on Arlington Drive. Athlete must dismount at dismount line and put bike back in transition area.   

Run:

All Athletes must dismount their bicycle before entering the transition area.  Bikes and helmets must be returned to designated area before leaving the transition area for the run.  Athletes will exit the transition area through the run entrance and exit (only).

Distance:

5 years of age to 9 years of age will run 1 time around the walking/running path. Distance is appr. ½ mile

10 years of age to 16 years of age will run 2 times around the walking/running path. Distance is appr. 1 mile.

Finish line will be on Arlington Lane.

Rules and Helpful notes:

  • One parent is allowed to help their child in the transition area for children 12 years of age and younger.
  • Transition will close 30 minutes before the beginning of the triathlon at 7:30 AM and will re-open for Athletes to get their equipment after the last competitor leaves for the run.  All athletes must show their race number to obtain their equipment.
  • The transition area will have designated area for each athlete with duct tape or chalk.  There will not be bike racks for the Athletes.  Please make sure each Athlete has room for their equipment in the designated area.
  • If a child from 5 to 9 years old is unable to complete the swimming, their time will not be recorded. They will be able to continue to race have fun and get a finishers medal for all their hard work.
  • Helmets must be secure and chin strap must be fastened at all time during the bike course.  No athlete will be allowed to mount their bike without a fasten helmet.
  • The race will begin with the swim at 7:30am with the first athlete.  An athlete will start every 20 seconds for ages 10 to 16 years of age and every 30 seconds for each athlete at 5 years of age to 9 years of age.
  • If an athlete is late to their start time they will be designated to a different start time.

Dorchester Swim and Tennis Club

MEMBERSHIP Dorchester membership is limited to 250 families who each own one share of stock in the pool. Stock can be purchased after membership is approved, then annual dues is assessed each year. As owners, we all pitch in to help prepare the pool and grounds for each new season. All members are required to participate in one spring work day (for a total of at least 4 hours per family) or pay an extra $100 fee to opt out of their work day requirement.
