We call ourselves “A Drinking Club with a Running Problem”. Our club holds informal local Dayton area running events known as Hash Runs. Our runs are typically three to four miles in distance. Hash runs are unique in that the organizers, the Hares, set a trail of flour and chalk for the pack of runners, we call Hashers, to follow. To make it fun and challenging the hares try to misdirect and confuse the pack of runners in which direction they should go. The faster runners are up front looking for the flour marks on the ground. Sometimes they go in the wrong direction, False Trail. They then retrace their steps and search in other areas. This allows the slower runners or walkers to catch up. Together we run more or less in a social group. Start locations change from run to run. The hash routes are very entertaining and almost never repeat. We go into many areas including forest, which we call Shiggy. Due to the adult nature of drinking and the colorful language we use, it’s recommended that only 21 and over should participate.
