All American Short Loop is a 13.2 mile loop trail located near Southern Pines, North Carolina. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for birding, hiking, mountain biking & trail running.
American Tobacco Trail is a 20 mile point to point rail trail that goes from Durham to Wake County. The ATT is popular for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians (in non-urban sections). On-leash dogs are welcome.
Campbell Creek Loop and Lanier Falls Trail is a 6.0 mile trail located in Raven Rock State Park near Lillington, North Carolina and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for camping & hiking and is accessible year-round.
Cedarock Park Trail is a 2.2 mile loop trail located near Burlington, North Carolina and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible from January through December. There are more than one trail with trails being added at this time.
The Crabtree Creek Trail in suburban Raleigh, North Carolina, is composed of seven segments: Alleghany, Buckeye, Crabtree Valley, Crabtree-Oak Park, Fallon Creek, Middle Crabtree Creek and North Hills. The segments range from 0.25 mile to just over 3 miles long, for a total of 12.15 miles for the whole trail system.
Dunn-Erwin Rail Trail is a 5 mile point-to-point trail located near Erwin, North Carolina and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for mountain biking, trail running & walking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A dedicated hiking trail, the Hidden Hill Trail travels through a wide diversity of habitats on its 2.2 mile journey including mature riparian forests, reclaimed farmland, and vernal pools and wetlands. The trail leads to the highest point in the 200 acre Shallow Ford Natural Area ad 679 feet.
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is located near Apex, North Carolina and features a lake. The trail is rated as moderate offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
From main building start off counter clockwise by crossing the road. You will start off on dirt path, but this is the best way to find single track at 1 mi. Single track does run out and last 1.5 mi is on greenway/bike path.
To me being a beginner this is a difficult trail with some very large hills. It is also very rooty on some trails. There is a skills area and some drop hills. It is run by the Town of Clayton with volunteer help.

The Mine Creek Trail consists of five distinct segments: Bent Creek (paved), Inman Connector (unpaved), Ironwood (paved), Lake Park (unpaved), Sawmill (unpaved) and Shelley Lake (paved). The segments vary in length from 0.25 mile to nearly 2.5 miles, for a total trail system distance of 6.55 miles.
Various paved and unpaved trails that loop around and through art and nature exhibits. The Southern paved portion is the Reedy Creek Trail which connects to the House Creek Greenway Trail and is known as the scenic walking bridge that spans I-440 at Wade Avenue.
Orange blazes with hiker image mark the route of the Peninsula trail. Single blaze indicate main trail route and double blaze indicates loop off of main trail. Trail may take the average hiker 2 hours to complete, so please be aware of park closing time and plan accordingly.
The Walnut Creek Trail is divided into six segments: Lake Johnson (5.63 miles of paved and unpaved), Lower Walnut Creek, Lower Walnut Creek-Walnut Creek Park, Lower Walnut Creek-Worthdale, Middle Walnut Creek and Upper Walnut Creek. The Lake Johnson segment is the longest and it's the only section that has unpaved portions.
